Guide to Lepel
Our journey through Lepel begins with the former military settlement. It houses several two-story and three-story residential buildings. Some of these buildings are surrounded by a small forest. A little further away, private housing begins. In the territory of the settlement, there is a playground. So, children feel very comfortable here.
We pass through the forest, which is mainly composed of pine trees. Here, you can often see people picking mushrooms. The nature around is very beautiful, with clean forest air, which is abundant here. After passing through the forest, we approached Lake Lepel. And here, a picturesque panorama opened up from the military settlement to a very beautiful lake.
On the lake, at a considerable distance, there is an island. Apparently, the distance to the island is about five hundred meters. We approached the shore. The water in the lake is very clean and transparent. Near the shore, dense reeds grow. A house rises above the shore. Someone decided to live closer to the water. In fact, this place is historically closely connected with the origins of the city of Lepel.
We then walked from the hospital along Berezinskaya Street toward the city center. Our path led along a beautiful forest alley, and on the opposite side of the street, there was a residential area. We then approached the former Berezinskaya system. This is a water canal blocked by locks, with a hydroelectric power station located on it. Along the river Ulla, there is Pushkinskaya Street, which consists of private houses.
Next, we came to the Lelsk beach, where there was once a hill that children loved to climb and play on. Now this hill has been completely flattened; someone decided to build a house there.
Here, there is a nice sandy beach, with changing booths and benches. We cross the pontoon bridge over the river and enter the park.
We approached the monument to the founder of the city of Lepel. The monument states that it is Lev Sapieha, who lived from 1557 to 1633. Near the church, a monument to Pope John Paul II was erected, whom Belarus and Poland greatly honor. Services are held in this church every day. The church's architecture is very strict and minimalist.
Before us stands the famous Lepel Square, about which a local writer writes his story. Nearby is a department store, where children used to love to go and play arcade games.
We then walked along Gorky Street, which mainly consists of private houses. In general, this town is small, neat, and cozy. It is famous for its dairy products, which are popular all over Belarus and beyond.
