Rules for flower care
Caring for flowers is a painstaking task. After you have a bouquet delivered to you or you have bought it in a flower shop, you should follow a number of recommendations.
Do not use water straight from the tap. Pour it into some container and let it sit for a day. In this case, the chlorine will evaporate from the water and the water will warm up to room temperature, which is critical for flowers.
A bouquet of flowers should not be placed in the kitchen. There are fruits, vegetables and other products there that release ethylene during storage, which has a detrimental effect on flowers.
The shelf life of flowers greatly depends on temperature, which is one of the most important factors affecting their durability and safety. Therefore, we recommend not placing flowers in a draft - they are afraid of sudden temperature changes.
For long-term storage of flowers, you need to choose the coolest room (for example, a balcony at low positive temperatures). In cool rooms, the level of respiration and ethylene formation decreases, water loss decreases, thereby prolonging the life of the bouquet.
Never freeze flowers. At low temperatures, the water in the plant cells crystallizes and expands. As a result, the cells are destroyed and the flowers die.
You need to add cold water to the flower basket on the "Oasis" daily.
These are the most general recommendations for flower care. Now, let's move from the general to the specific and see what care individual types of flowers require and how to extend their "life" when cut.
Rose. After delivery or purchase, you must immediately trim the flower stem by a few centimeters and then split it. Roses can be extended by adding 0.5 aspirin tablets per 1 liter of water or using a special "living solution" for flowers. Regular spraying of the leaves is recommended. With proper care, flowers "live" up to 10 days.
Chrysanthemum. The stems must be cleared from below by 2/3 and trimmed by 2.5-3 cm. It is necessary to add a feeding preparation or 0.5 aspirin tablet to the water. The optimal storage temperature is 8-10°C. When cut, the flower "lives" up to 20 days.
Iris. The stem should be cut. When cut, the flower "lives" 1-3 days.
Carnation. It is better not to cut, but to break off in the area of the thickened node. A 2-5% sugar solution (1-2 pieces), or adding alcohol to water, or 1/3 of an aspirin tablet help preserve it. Spraying with water is useful. When cut, the flower "lives" 15 days or more.
Gerbera. The flower should be trimmed by a few centimeters. For better water absorption, the stem should be pierced with a needle at the bottom and top or cut at the bottom. Needs frequent renewal of the cut and change of water. It is recommended to add a small amount of alcohol or sugar to the water (2 teaspoons per 1 liter of water). In a cut state, the flower "lives 7-10 days".
You can also add that cut flowers last longer if they are kept in slightly acidified water. If you want the flower buds to open faster, you can prepare and add a solution of 1/2 teaspoon of ammonia per liter of water to a vase with a bouquet.
